Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is expected to release the 2022 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education exam results on Friday January 20.

Machogu is expected to announce the results at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) offices after reports indicated that marking of the papers had ended.

The 2022 national tests were administered between February 28 and April 1, 2022.

KNEC administered the KCSE exam to some 884,263 learners who sat the tests last year. Out of this, 420,845 were female while 405,962 were male.

This compares to some 826,807 candidates who sat the examinations the previous year.

It is however expected that the CS may not divulge the specific results for candidates and schools after it emerged that the government is keen to eliminate high stakes in the tests.

Parents, teachers and union officials termed this year’s release of the KCPE national examination results as colourless with no pomp and colour.

While releasing the KCPE exam results in December, no ranking of candidates or schools was done based on performance as has been the norm over the years.

And this perished the traditional burst of song and dance from schools and candidates during the release when top performers were called out on national television.

Parents, teachers and union officials termed this year’s release of  the national examination results as colourless with no pomp and colour.

They however welcomed the move saying it would eliminate competition and address some of the ills that came with ranking candidates and schools.

The Standard however requests parents and students to share their results through WhatsApp number for publication:  0111 699 784.

Details should include the name of the candidate, index number, passport photo of the candidate, school and grade attained.

During the release of the examination results, Machogu is expected to address policy issues affecting the sector including selection and admission of the students to universities and colleges.

The CS is also expected to address next week opening of schools, fees and other broad transition issues in the education sector.

In examinations released the previous year, only 1,138 candidates scored the coveted Grade A (Plain) in the 2021 KCSE exam. Out of this number, 349 were female and 789 were male.

Some 18 counties among them Taita Taveta, Vihiga, Kakamega, Elgeyo Marakwet, Machakos, Kitui, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia, Kisumu, registered highest number of male candidates.
